JOB DESCRIPTION

                                               

JOB TITLE:               YARD MANAGER

RESPONSIBLE TO:  THE HEAD OF EQUESTRIAN

HOURS:                     FULL TIME

 

CLOSING DATE:       FRIDAY 3rd MARCH

 

 

JOB PURPOSE

 

We are looking to appoint a Yard Manager, who will work closely with the Head of Equestrian, with all aspects of yard work and riding at The Elms.

 

RIDING AT THE ELMS

 

Reporting to the Head of Equestrian, the Yard Manager will be an integral part of the Equestrian team at The Elms School and will have a responsibility for the safe and successful provision of riding and operation of the stables at The Elms in accordance with the aims of the school and reflecting the importance of riding within it. Many pupils bring their own ponies and share ponies at the school, where they care and look after them on a day-to-day basis. There is a strong support network to help to ensure the children learn about and care for all the ponies at the Elms and to ensure that they gain the a wide experience of riding, hacking and trail hunting.  We cater from beginners to experienced jockeys and so we need to be able to teach a full range of abilities. Some pupils are representing The Elms through NSEA.

The Yard Manager will be expected to live either onsite (accommodation will be provided) or locally and will support the Head of Equestrian.  They will also be required to have at least the Pony Club B Test.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

        Involvement with the safe and successful provision of riding and operation of the stables.

       Looking after the ponies

       Care of the Stables and the Yard

 

NATURE OF THE ROLE:


The stables operate throughout the year and therefore these roles will include some involvements at weekend and school holidays - albeit that the hours are substantially reduced and cover will be organised to ensure an appropriate work/life balance.  There may be the opportunity for the successful candidate to keep their own horse at school subject to the needs of the stables and ponies and to ride out or take part in local club events.

 

 

 

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION:

 

  • An enthusiasm for riding and for coaching children
  • Hard working, self-motivated, and flexible to the challenges of daily life
  • Appropriate knowledge, training and experience to meet the requirements of the position
  • Suitable knowledge of First Aid and Health and Safety issue associated with riding. (Further training can be provided)
  • Good communication and inter personal skills
  • A good sense of humour, plenty of patience and a calm temperament
  • Flexibility, motivated and with the ability to work both in a team and independently, and to be able to cope in unpredictable circumstances.
  • A willingness to take part in the wider life of the school would be an advantage
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to child safety
