Skittles Final 2008

The Final was held on Sunday 1st June at the Walwyn Arms, Much Marcle. Pete Robinson’s Team was defending the title, winning last year against the Sheppard team. This year it was left to Ivor Steven’s team to try and beat them. Those who had been beaten by Ivor were convinced that his team had what it would take to over throw the champions!

It was a very close match, with some very good skittling by both teams, but the Huntouchables (as Pete has called his team!!) kept edging ahead and finally beat Ivor’s gallant team by 338 to 300.

It was a very good evening, although very few supporters were there to see the match. Ged Lampard very kindly presented the victorious team with their cup (a big thank you to Ged for coming and doing the honours). I have a feeling that there may have been some sore heads in the Huntouchables team as the concoction of alcohol that went in the cup, would have cleaned the insides of most peoples’ stomachs!! Anyway, thank you for the few who turned up to watch the match.

The overall skittles competition this year has been a little disappointing. It is all supposed to be a bit of fun but it will only work if people make a bit of effort to play their matches by the designated date. The Losers’ competition was abandoned as no matches were played. It is the team captains’ job to sort the match; it is not up to me to keep chasing everyone.

Having said that I am hoping to do the skittles again next year but I would ask that you only get a team together if you are really prepared to play your matches and pay your entry money up front!!
