Raceforlife 2008On 2nd July 2008 at the Three Counties Show Ground, Cancer Research held their Raceforlife. Five weeks earlier after a few drinks Margaret, Yvonne, Fiona and Lavinia decided to train for the 3 mile run!!! Some of us were not as fit as at least one member of the team i.e Margaret, so the training began. Yvonne and Lavinia met most Fridays for a run, Fiona (running in secret, we decided) exercising the dogs in the evening and Margaret running occasionally but 6 miles!!!! We progressively ached less and recovered quicker, which was good as at least one member of the team i.e.Yvonne, couldn’t walk down the stairs at all well after the first week!!! We had to arrive an hour before the start time for the warm ups!! Which we duly did in fits of laughter. Our support team and official photographers were Tim Jeynes and Terrence Bayliss (very amateurish!!), but recorded the event well with much laughter. Into the running section we went and set off pretty much together. Margaret soon was out of sight! The rest of us plodded on. We all got to the finish unaided by paramedics grateful for the water, goodie bag and medal. We have raised about £400 pounds for Cancer Research UK at present but still have 4 weeks to raise some more, so dig deep for this major achievement and push our total to at least £500. This is such a worthy cause, of which I am sure you have all been touched by in some way or other, so put your hands in your pockets, to boost our total and do your bit for Cancer Research.
